- A significant use for sodium hexametaphosphate is as a deflocculant in the production of clay-based ceramic particles. It is also used as a dispersing agent to break down clay and other soil types for soil texture assessment.
- Sodium hexametaphosphate can be heated with sodium fluoride to produce sodium monofluorophosphate (NaF) , which is an important industrial raw material.
- As a scale inhibitor, sodium hexametaphosphate is widely used in EDI (resin electrodialysis), RO (reverse osmosis), NF (nanofiltration) and other water treatment industries
